Most chimneys in the UK are subject to the damage caused by wind, rain, sun and frost. Overtime, the conditions will slowly breakdown and destroy the mortar and as a result holes or breaches of the internal flue chamber can occur. Due to its high acid content, the smoke and deposits from the fire can also speed up the process.

If this happens, the chimney can suffer from structual problems. It can also lead to an inefficient appliance as gases and smoke are pushed or escape sidewards. The smoke can often be seen escaping from the brickwork at various points down the outside of the chimney.

Other repairs are undertaken by our staff such as the replacement of broken pots, replacement of broken or spawled brickwork or the removal and renewing of the flaunching - the top arched weatherproofing layer.
